A VETERAN fisherman could land himself a major prize after reaching the last six in a top food competition.
Ken Green, of Clacton, has been in the fishing business all his life and started trading more than 65 years ago. He has been supplying smoked mackerel, haddock, trout and kippers to the East of England Co-op for the past five years.
Now Ken is down to the final six in the Co-op’s Producer of the Year awards.
“I’ve been in the fishing business all my life,” he said.
“Having started out on the family fishing boat in Wivenhoe, I have the gut feeling of a fisherman and instinctively know a good fish from a poor one.”
Ken’s fish are smoked at Clacton. The business also includes wife Desi and stepson Paul.
Kevin Warden, from the Coop, said: “Our six shortlisted producers showcase the fantastic array of outstanding food and drink grown and made in East Anglia.
“Now we’re calling on our members and customers to get voting and tell us which great-tasting local products they’ve most enjoyed this year.”
Voting ends on February 14. To vote for Ken, go to eastofengland.coop/2015producer
