A TOP-RATED Holland-on-Sea nursery has appeared on TV to talk about radical Government pre- school place plans.

Camera crews descended on The Chase nursery to film a segment for the BBC’s Sunday Politics show.

Owner Kerry Boughey was asked to appear on the show to talk about Government plans to introduce added free nursery care for two-year-olds.

The Government already provides free nursery care for two-year-olds from the most deprived 20 per cent of families.

But from September, it will be available to the most deprived 40 per cent. Kerry said: “At the moment, you have to be on a certain type of benefit, but the plan is to offer it to the majority of families.

“We are already at capacity in Holland and our new site in Kirby is nearly full. We are only allowed to have so many children at once, so it won’t affect our provision.

“The greatest effect of this might be on the parents. With a much higher demand on places, they might not be able to get their children into their first or second choice nurseries."

The TV segment was based at The Chase and featured footage of youngsters playing and learning.

It also had interviews with parents, focusing on the difficulty in getting their preferred nursery place.
