A PRISON governor has apologised to the mother of murder victim Jay Whiston after officials admitted a photo of convicted killer Edward Redman had been taken in jail.

For six days, the Ministry of Justice had “categorically denied” the Gazette’s story that a picture of a grinning Redman, posing with younger brother James, had been taken during a prison visit.

Redman is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Clacton student Jay Whiston in 2012.

The photo was published on James Redman’s Facebook page in November, but the Ministry of Justice had insisted it had spoken to the governor at Chelmsford Prison, before issuing a categoric denial the picture had been taken there.

But a spokesman later admitted the picture had been taken in prison and apologised for the error.
