SCHOOL bosses say a technology workshop blaze has not caused any lasting damage.
Tendring Technology College’s Frinton campus was evacuated on Wednesday last week after a fire broke out in a woodwork room.
Pupils were moved out of the technology block to a set evacuation point after an extractor system in the classroom started smoking.
Two fire crews were sent to the scene and doused the flames before removing the burnt-out extractor from the school.
Vice-principal Michael Muldoon said: “It was a relatively minor incident, but we are very proud of the superb and professional way our students behaved throughout the whole incident.
“They were calm and listened to our instructions. The evacuation of 1,000 students can be tough logistically, but their good behaviour meant it was not a big ordeal.”
Firefighters used fans to clear the smoke-logged technology classrooms and eventually declared it safe.
Mr Muldoon added: “Fortunately, there was no lasting damage to the building and the students were in as normal the following day.”
