CLACTON is set to welcome in the festive period after a 30ft Christmas tree was put up in the town centre.
Last year’s “paltry” 15ft tree donated by the Federation of Small Businesses was lambasted as “laughable” by shoppers and traders.
It was axed by Tendring Council after just one day and replaced with another which was twice the size.
But this year’s 30ft tree, which cost £1,000, is now proudly in place in the centre of Clacton Town Square.
The tree has been donated to the town by VBA Joint Venture, the firm that is carrying out the £36million coast defence scheme between Clacton and Holland-on-Sea.
