GENEROUS doctors from across north Essex have donated £800 to Walton and Frinton lifeboat.

The Colchester Medical Society, which also has members in Walton, Clacton and Harwich, nominated the RNLI as its chosen charity for 2014.

Members of the lifeboat crew and the station’s management team were invited to the society’s summer garden party in July, when a chance to win a visit to the lifeboat station was raffled.

As part of the visit, the winners were treated to a trip on the Tamar class lifeboat Irene Muriel Rees.

A cheque for £800 has been presented to coxswain Gary Edwards by Colchester Medical Society president Jonathan Evans-Jones.

Lifeboat chairman Stewart Oxley said “We are very grateful for the efforts of the medical society members.

“As well as their efforts in raising this money, many of them are or have in the past been involved with their local lifeboat stations as the designated honorary medical adviser, so understand the work our crews do only to well.

“Everything the RNLI do is funded by voluntary contributions and without the continued commitment of supporters such as these, it would be almost impossible to continue operating the RNLI.”
