RESIDENTS could be set to miss out on a celebrity panto star Christmas light switch-on this year.
Coronation Street star Charlie Condou, who was midwife Marcus Dent in the soap, is taking the lead role of Simple Simon in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Princes Theatre.
In previous years, the theatre’s professional panto stars have flicked the switch for Clacton and Brightlingsea’s Christmas lights.
But this year, they will not be joining the festive fun.
Clacton Town Partnership, which organises the lights, has had to ask the stars of the West Cliff Theatre’s variety show to come to the rescue.
Chairman Lisa Alligan, who runs Charnallies restaurant, in Pier Avenue, said: “The cast of the Princes Theatre panto can’t commit to appearing."
