A TEAM of chefs may have bitten off more than they can chew after taking on an ace women’s netball team in a charity shoot-out.

Cooks from Clacton-based Bespoke Caterers are going head to head with the Frinton Flames in what’s being billed as the netball match of the year.

Catering boss Glyn Wiltshire and his team have been training with Flames coach Louise Taggart... and are already feeling the pain.

“We’re all finding it hard – it’s not a ‘game for girls’,” admitted Glyn.

The netball match will be followed by a ticket-only Halloween bash at Frinton Golf Club, featuring live music from rising stars The Landed, who have had rave reviews and performed on Radio 1.

There will also be a raffle of prizes that money can’t buy.

Money raised will be split between the British Heart Foundation and Colchester General Hospital which hopes to build a new £4.5million cancer treatment unit.

Glyn’s brother Carl died from a heart condition six years ago, aged just 41. Dad Frank, 70, also has heart problems and has been kept alive by a pacemaker for the last 20 years.

On New Year’s Day he was diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Glyn has done a marathon and triathlon for the British Heart Foundation in the past, but the netball match is the first time he’s roped in his own staff to help with the fundraising.

The lads are sporting skirts for the big game, which takes place at Tendring Technology College on November 1 at 4pm. “If you want to watch a bunch of men running around in skirts, that’s the place to be,” Glyn said.

Tickets for the Hallowe’en night are £10 and must be bought in advance from the golf club bar or on 01255 470702.
