YOUNGSTERS helped commemorate Clacton’s fallen First World War heroes in a moving graveside ceremony.
A special memorial service was held at Burrs Road Cemetery where 30 men who died in the GreatWar are buried.
Brian Gallant, of the Royal British Legion, read the roll of honour.
Pupils placed a poppy cross on the grave of each fallen hero as their name was read out.
Royal British Legion treasurer Sharon Robinson said: “It was very, very moving.
“A child stood in front of each of the graves and as the names were read out they laid crosses by the headstones.”
Youngsters and teachers from White Hall Academy, Frobisher School and Tendring Enterprise Studio School took part in the poignant service.
“We wanted to get the children involved with the First World War commemorations,” said Mrs Robinson.
“The kids are really interested and it is nice for them to be part of it and know what the Poppy Appeal and Royal British legion are all about.
“A lot of them know people who have been out in Afghanistan or have elderly relatives who were in the Second World War."
The act of remembrance was attended by veterans, standard bearers and civic leaders, and included a minute’s silence and dedication.
