A YOUTH football club’s new base has been targeted by crooks – just one day after being unveiled.
Frinton and Walton Youth FC cut the ribbon at their newclubhouse in Frinton Park playing field on Sunday.
Youngsters, club staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to raise £6,000 to get the building up and running, doing much of the work themselves.
But it has already been targeted by burglars ,who tried to break in last Monday.
They cut the locks and tried to force the windows open, but could not get inside.
Club chairman Mick Collins hit out at the culprits.
He said: “This is a real kick in the teeth after all the work we have done. The football club has been waiting for 35 years to get a home.
“The hut on this site was derelict for years. We put a lick of paint on it and it is attacked straight away.
“It is frustrating and disappointing, but this is the culture we live in now.”
“Nothing will beat us, but it is a sad state of affairs when something like this happens.”
The club are now getting estimates into the cost of repairing the damage and looking into tighter security measures.
They also appealed for the community to report anything suspicious to police on 101.
