DEVOTED parents have organised a fundraiser after their baby son survived a terrifying meningitis scare.

Vincent Muckle was just four months old when he was taken to hospital last year after suddenly falling ill.

Parents Gemma and Will now organise an annual fancy dress party at a pub in aid of meningitis research.

Vincent, now 19 months old, spent a week in hospital undergoing treatment, and has fully recovered from the deadly illness.

Gemma, 29, of Tower Street, Brightlingsea, said: “We were very fortunate as the hospital treatment was really good and he was strong enough to respond to treatment.

“Not everyone is as lucky as we were.

“Now we just want to raise money for awareness and research, because it can be hours from life to death and you can contract it at any place or any time.”

Will, 34, and Gemma organise a fancy dress fundraiser at the Brewers Arms, in Brightlingsea.

Gemma dressed as the Queen of Hearts, while Will came as Superman.

Last year’s event raised £700, but this year they broke the £1,000 barrier.
