Essex: Firefighters commence three-hour strike Essex: Firefighters commence three-hour strike

Firefighters in Essex are striking until midnight tonight.

The strike is being carried out by members of the Fire Brigades Union.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) has assured members of the public emergency response will not suffer during the action.

Assistant chief fire officer Gary Fleming said: “Fire engines will still be attending emergencies and the public should continue to dial 999 as normal.

“But anything we can do to reduce the number of non emergency calls during 9pm to midnight on Saturday will clearly assist us in ensuring our service delivery is directed to those areas where it is most needed.”

Families are being urged to check their smoke alarms and keep an eye on vulnerable friends and neighbours.
