Braintree district: Farmers given permission to grit public roads Braintree district: Farmers given permission to grit public roads

Farmers across the district have been given special permission to help to grit and clear snow from public roads.

Rules prohibiting vehicles that are not adapted and used solely for gritting to undertake the work, have been relaxed.

They can also use red diesel.

During this period of extreme weather HM Revenue & Customs said agricultural tractors on public roads clearing snow or gritting to provide access to schools, hospitals, a remote dwelling, or communities cut off by ice and snow can continue to use red diesel.
