The county experienced a second snow shower of the week last night, but most roads remained clear.
Essex County Council sent out gritters last night at 9pm and 3am to guard against the sub-zero temperatures.
The council said that most roads remained clear, although drivers on the A120 near Stansted, close to the slip road with the M11, experienced problems in the morning rush-hour.
County councillor Tracey Chapman, Cabinet Member for Highways & Transportation, said: "Our gritters are doing a tremendous job keeping on top of the forecast and thanks to their preventative efforts, Essex’s roads are able to keep moving.
"But residents must not be complacent and continue to travel with extra caution during this cold spell and check local weather forecasts for updates."
