Braintree: Council under fire for car park closure

A Braintree shopkeeper has urged the council to “get to grips” with parking after the part-closure of a car park.

Sylvia Thorogood is concerned a lack of parking could drive away Braintree shoppers after the council closed the top floor of the George Yard car park.

Ms Thorogood of Hedingham Models and Collectables in Market Street said: “We had been told previously that money had been spent to stop this happening, so I would like to know why it is still a problem."

In response, a Braintree Council spokesman said: “In terms of the top floor being closed to public use during icy weather, we make every effort to keep this open unless it compromises the health and safety of the public."
