Consultations for the Braintree bus park redevelopment failed to give residents a fair chance to have their say, it has been claimed.

Braintree Council voted overwhelmingly against a motion tabled by councillor Eric Lynch on Monday to hold a new survey.

Mr Lynch claimed the paper version only gave residents the choice to vote for either one of two proposals put forward by developers for the site off Victoria Street.

But the online form was altered half way through the consultation period to give people the chance to vote against the development completely.

Seven residents living near the bus park spoke against the plans and 1,326 people signed a petition opposing the development.
