Heat cameras help homeowners lower their bills

Thermal imaging technology is being used to find households that could save cash on their heating bills.

During night-time over the winter months, special vehicles equipped with thermal cameras drove through Dunmow to find homes that could benefit from additional insulation.

By observing the amount of heat escaping from properties and whereabouts on buildings heat is seeping out, experts can pinpoint areas where new insulation could benefit both the environment and householders’ finances.

Over the next few weeks, surveyors will be knocking on the doors of these houses, showing residents the thermal image of their property and talking to them how they can insulate their home. The “HeatSeekers” project is the work of the Energy Saving Partnership, working with Uttlesford Council and the Herts Essex Energy Partnership.

Any homeowner who would like a free insulation survey on their property can call HeatSeekers on 0800 111 4968 or visit www.homeheatseekers.co.uk.
