11:52am Friday 19th March 2010

EVERY dog has its day, even if it's not refined enough for prestigious dog show Crufts.

George Yard shopping centre in Braintree held a Scrufts contest for Braintree pooches, judged by Caroline Cartwright of doggie-collars.co.uk.

Alice, a bassett hound, won Best Dressed Dog with a natty green T-shirt.

Charlie, a Shar Pei, won Funniest Dog for her display of wrinkles.

Blue, a labradoodle, won The Biggest/Smallest category.

And Nuscha, a spaniel, won Most Like the Owner Mutt for her matching hair colour.

One of the other entries was Rox, who was accompanied by a volunteer from the RSPCA Danaher Animal Home.

Centre manager Brenda Baker said: “I would like to thank all of the dogs and owners who came and joined in our fun competition."

Another event will be run later this year. Anyone wishing to enter can call 01376 550373.
