The death of a man in Braintree has been found to be non-suspicious.

Edward McMartin, 55, contacted police on November 15 to report someone had forced entry to his flat in Courtauld Road.

Mr McMartin was taken ill and sadly died a short while later.

Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

A post mortem examination was carried out and proved inconclusive, pending further investigation.

These enquiries have now been completed and have determined Mr McMartin’s death was not suspicious.

His family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Anthony Lines, 35, unemployed, of Courtauld Road, Braintree, admitted a charge of violence to secure entry to a property and criminal damage.

He was sentenced to a total of four weeks in jail, but this was suspended for a year.

Lines must complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 compensation.

He was also arrested on suspicion of murder, but is no longer under investigation in connection with Mr McMartin’s death and faces no further action.
