A family will take part in a day-long golf challenge with a professional golfer in aid of a cancer charity.

The event, at Benton Hall, Witham, on Thursday, will cover the distance of a marathon as participants play 72 holes throughout the day.

Paul Hoskin and son Dominic, 14, will take part with Dan Griffin, head of PE at Maltings Academy, professional Lee Cocker and Christian Butler, a Benton Hall member.

Mr Hoskin, 43, said: “We will be walking the best part of a marathon throughout the day.

“There are five of us taking part, playing 72 holes during four rounds.

“We play two rounds in the morning, have lunch and a shower, then go back and play another two rounds.”

The group will be teeing off just before 5am and are hoping to be finished before 9.30pm, playing from sunrise to sunset.

All money raised on Thursday will go to Beat It Box, formerly Charlie’s Army, a charity for teenager cancer patients.

Treasurer, trustee and secretary Paula Hoskin said: “We raise money to support newly diagnosed teenage cancer patients by delivering gift boxes with useful items.

“We normally deal with University College London Hospital, which is where most teenage patients are sent from around the south east.

“The founder, Lisa Corbett, is a friend of mine which is how I got involved.

“We are hoping to raise £1,000 and have £250 so far.”

On the day there will also be a competition to guess the number of Stableford points.
