A PE teacher has been overwhelmed by the support of students who completed the Race for Life.

Sally Pasquale, head of PE at New Rickstones Academy in Witham, is a keen supporter of the event, in aid for Cancer Research UK, and suggested to students that they get involved.

She was delighted when so many students and colleagues alike got on board, raising a total of £460 for the charity.

Miss Pasquale said: “I thought it would be amazing for the whole school to get involved.

“Race for Life is generally for just the girls, but I wanted the boys to take part, too.

“It’s a great way of raising awareness of the work of Cancer Research.

Gazette:

“The event has sparked conversations in school and I can’t believe how many students are affected in some way by cancer.

“They wrote in speech bubbles who they were running for; I got really choked.”

Usually Race for Life supporters complete 5km tracks, but students were encouraged to run as far as they could during lessons.

Miss Pasquale added: “Students have been brilliant, even those who do not usually get involved in sporting events.

“Race for Life sent us medals for them all.

“We will definitely be doing this every year now.”
