Police were called to a fight in which an unknown substance was thrown outside a supermarket in Witham.

The incident involved up to five men and took place outside Morrisons, in Braintree Road, last night at around 9.50pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called after the occupants of several cars, including a black VW, were seen fighting outside the store.

It was alleged that an unknown substance was thrown during the altercation.

One man then chased two of the other men into the supermarket before all parties drove from the scene.

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the scene, however were stood down by officers on arrival.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "We have a zero tolerance approach to all forms of anti-social behaviour in our stores and are assisting police with their enquiries."
