A folk singer with a cult following who grew up in Rayne has announced the release of his debut book and a massive UK tour to celebrate its release.

Drunk Folk Stories is a collection of ten short, true tales about songwriting, travelling and drinking from Jay McAllister - better known as Beans On Toast.

Featuring the likes of Billy Bragg, Banksy and the Cookie Monster, the book details first-hand Jay's drunken escapades over more than 15 years in the music business.

The book will be released worldwide on Tuesday, May 1, via Play of Words Publishing.

The very same day sees the re-release of Beans' 2009 album Standing on a Chair, and the 50-track album is coming to vinyl for the first time.

To support the release of the book and album, he will be heading out on a tour of the UK, for the first time playing seated theatres rather than pubs, clubs or festivals.

Called the Sitting on a Chair tour, Beans On Toast will perform at Colchester Arts Centre, on Thursday, May 17.

Jay McAllister grew up in Rayne and has gone on to perform all over the globe, becoming a firm favourite at Glastonbury Festival.

In May 2017 he performed at The Swan as part of his Down the Pub tour.

Tickets for the tour go on sale today.
