Plans to build a zip-line at Great Notley Country Park and bring in thousands more visitors to the popular attraction have been revealed.

Essex County Council has applied for permission to construct the 500m long zip wire as well as create new pathways and reconfigure the reception area in the park’s Discovery Centre.

Figures state that the new development could bring an additional 13,000 visitors to the park ever year, an increase of eight per cent, as well as create at least two extra jobs.

A planning report states: “The installation of the zip-line will have benefits across the district. The nature of the development will increase the visitor numbers to the Country Park and contribute to the Park’s future viability both functionally and financially.

“Additionally, the proposal will improve inclusive accessibility within the park through the introduction of additional footpaths to serve the proposal and wider area.”

Last year, Braintree Council, Essex County Council and representatives for fitness franchise David Lloyd discussed plans to create an activity centre at Great Notley Country Park.

The zip-line is thought to be the first step towards this development, which in total could create up to 85 jobs.

The statement continues: “Great Notley Country Park already features a wide range of active attractions including climbing areas, water play, swings, slides and the most recent Sky Ropes courses.

“The proposed double zip line falls in line with the current offerings of active outdoor play and will ensure that the park continues to be a safe and controlled environment.”

Great Notley Country Park is leased from Braintree Council by Essex County Council.
