Artists are wanted to help capture the essence of a historic site in Silver End, as part of a massive new £600,000 project.

Run by East Contemporary Visual Arts Network (ECVAN), New Geographies is a map of the East of England aiming to chronicle the stories of over-looked locations.

The iconic art deco homes of Silver End have made the final shortlist of 270 locations, and now the Arts Council England project is hoping artists will pitch their ideas.

A £25,000 budget will be given to ten artists to complete site-responsive commissions at ten sites over the next two years.

Donna Lynas, chair of ECVAN, said: "We were thrilled by the public response to our call out for nominations of overlooked and unexpected places in the East of England.

"The map of the region has been re-drawn with the stories, histories, and memories of the people who live here.

"We’re excited to see how artists will respond to the map and look forward to continuing to engage the residents of the East in shaping artistic commissions in response to these places over the next two years.

"It’s the start of an exciting journey and we’d like to thank everyone who has shared these wonderful stories and places with us."
