I read with great interest the article regarding the Essex Power 100 list and that judges selected Priti Patel as third on their list.

Less than a week later, Ms Patel was summoned to No 10.

She handed in her resignation as International Development Secretary, as a result of 14 unofficial meetings with Israelis, which took place whilst she was “on holiday”.

No one has yet told the taxpayers who paid for this holiday. Was it Ms Patel? Or, was it the Great British tax paying public, again?

Having Googled Ms Patel. I read, with great interest, her expenses over the few years she has been an MP, are some of the highest in Essex.

Unfortunately the list is not up-to-date, so I’m still no nearer to knowing who funded this holiday.

What I can’t understand is, when MPs drop clangers, why are they allowed to stay on as MPs?

Normal procedure outside privileged Parliament is to immediately, and permanently, leave the building.

And, just what do they have to do to get their backsides taken off the green seats in the House and not be allowed to keep their extremely generous pensions.

Remember the MPs expenses scandal? Quite a few got their knuckles wrapped for claiming “unauthorised expenses” but the majority didn’t have to pay back a penny to the taxpayers’ purse. It must be very lucrative to travel on the Westminster gravy train.
