Thousands of budding sporting superstars will benefit from a £150,000 resurfaced sports pitch.
The all-weather hockey pitch at Witham Sports Ground, Spinks Lane, has been upgraded It was officially opened on Saturday by representatives from Braintree Council and Fusion Lifestyle.
Cllr Peter Tattersley, cabinet member for health, said: “We’re delighted with this first class sports facility which will benefit residents in Witham from hockey to football players, school pupils to family groups.
"The new synthetic pitch provides a vastly improved playing surface on which full sized hockey matches can be played, as well as mini hockey and football training.
“New goals and covered seating alongside the existing flood lighting and changing rooms makes this one of the best venues in Essex.
Funded by Braintree Council, the 97m x 61m floodlit all weather pitch will serve the needs of Witham Hockey Club, alongside other clubs in the district.
