A FAMILY whose daughter died from an undiagnosed heart condition have taken part in an annual fundraising walk.

Kirsty and Sean Fitzpatrick travelled to London to take part in the annual fundraising walk, Heart of London Bridges, organised by the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (Cry).

Mr and Mrs Fitzpatrick, from Rayne, first became involved with Cry following the sudden death of their eldest daughter, Elise, in September last year.

Elise, 24, had an undiagnosed heart condition and since her death the family have worked to raise awareness and funds for Cry.

Mrs Fitzpatrick said: “It was very emotional to see the amount of people who had lost someone and to see the number of young people who had been lost to sudden adult death syndrome.

“It was nice to be able to see people that could understand why you were there and how you felt.”

Chief Executive of the charity, Dr Steven Cox, added: “We are immensely grateful to the Fitzpatricks for signing up to our bridges walk and know many people from their area were supporting them every step of the way.

“This event is always a very emotional and poignant day for everyone at Cry and over the past 11 years has really focused on raising awareness and remembering those young people who have died, as well as fundraising.

The Heart of London Bridges Walk is in its eleventh year and is one of the charity’s flagship events, raising almost £750,000 to date.

About 1,200 people walked together passing by 12 of London’s most famous landmarks, representing the deaths of the 12 young people who die every week in the UK from young, sudden, cardiac death (YSCD).

The walk took place on January 9.
