A SCHOOLBOY has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.
The incident happened this morning at 9am outside Beckers Green primary School, in Beckers Green Road, Braintree.
The seven-year-old boy suffered a broken left leg and will undergo surgery in the next few days.
The East of England Ambulance Service sent the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and an ambulance crew to the scene after receiving a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a car.
A spokesman said: "They treated one patient, a boy. He suffered a suspected broken leg and he was taken by land ambulance to Broomfield Hospital for further treatement."
Update 3.45pm - Headteacher Claire Smyth has issued the following statement:
"I can confirm that a child who attends Beckers Green Primary School was unfortunately involved in a road traffic accident this morning on Beckers Green Road.
"First aiders from the school were on scene immediately and emergency services responded quickly, including the Air Ambulance. The child was transported to hospital via ambulance. We are in touch with the family and will obviously offer any support they may require."
