A YOUNG boy with an aggressive form of cancer will spend his fifth birthday in hospital as he continues to push for treatment.

Jacob Jones, from Braintree, has been fighting high-risk neuroblastoma since he was two.

The John Ray Infant School pupil, of Browning Road, has no evidence of the cancer at the moment but the risk of relapse is very high.

His parents are appealing for £192,000 to send him for New York for treatment, on a Bivalent Vaccine clinical trial.

His dad, Adam Bojan, said: "Doctors in New York have said one of the conditions of him being accepted onto a vaccine trial is that he has antibody therapy first.

"This intensive treatment finds and destroys cancer cells, it will take 15 weeks, spread over five months.

"Unfortunately this will make him feel particularly unwell, with various symptoms including fever.

"Jacob's treatment schedule means him missing his mum, a lot more school, as well as the summer holidays.

"Sadly he will be at Great Ormond Street Hospital in June on his fifth birthday."

Despite the treatment Jacob and his family are staying positive and have so far raised £25,000.

James Smith, 18, from Surrey, ran the London Marathon for Jacob on Sunday.

He was the second youngest male to run.

He raised more than £2,000 after hearing about Jacob's story.

James' mum, Kay, said: "He is following in his grandad's footsteps as he ran the first London marathon.

"I ran the marathon in 2013 for Solving Kids Cancer and what was lovely was the fact he wanted to run for a child with cancer too.

"It was a massive commitment for James and we are really proud of him."
