THERE will be further pool closures at Braintree Swim and Fitness Centre to repair a series of newly discovered defects.

The main pool at the centre, in Charter Way, has been closed since February 27 for repairs, however similar issues have now been identified in the teaching and leisure pools.

Braintree District Council and Fusion Lifestyle announced on Friday that they have taken the decision to close the other pools from Wednesday to minimise disruption in the long term.

All three pools are now set to be closed until Saturday, May 20, but the gym and studio will remain open whilst works are ongoing.

Peter Tattersley, councillor responsible for health and communities, said: "We know that it is not ideal however as soon as we were made aware of the defects it made more sense to close all the pools and complete the works over the next few weeks rather than close the pools again at a later date.

"Fusion are working closely with customers to provide alternative arrangements.”

A spokesperson for Fusion Lifestyle said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused during the closure and continue to welcome swimmers the use of our neighbouring centres Halstead Leisure Centre and Witham Leisure Centre.

"Members will receive communications through email but please keep an eye on our website and social media for further updates.”
