AN APPLICATION for a licence to sell burgers on an industrial estate has been refused.
Mehmet Ali Gul asked for Braintree Council to allow him to sell food from a burger van on Eastways Industrial Estate in Witham.
Businesses had written in objection, saying they had already seen the burger van on site and it was causing a smell.
Mr Gul wanted to sell burgers, sausages, and chicken from 7am until 4pm from Monday to Friday.
However at a Licensing Committee meeting on January 5, it was decided the application be refused.
James Hayman, managing director at Hayman Gin on the site, had said in a letter to the council: "Not only is the smell from the van unpleasant but it is unsightly.
"In addition, people are parking precariously within the entrances to our site to enable them to use the facilities.
"This in itself is resulting in difficulties entering and leaving the site safely as visibility is often difficult and parking is already an issue due to the recent implementation of extra double lines."
