PARKING problems will have to continue as residents cannot agree on a solution, it has been said.

Parking in Dengie Close, in Witham, has been causing problems for residents living there as they cannot access their driveways or garages.

Greenfields Community Housing held an informal consultation with residents last year, however an agreement could not be made on how to solve the solution.

Residents, such as Bill Behrens, are getting desperate.

He said: "There are a lot of strong feelings about it, a lot of people have been shouted at and abused.

"There have been a lot of fights and police have been called as residents can't get to their garages.

"Drivers just don't care.

"It's a big problem, I have been called all sorts of names."

He described the situation as a volcano that is ready to erupt.

A spokesman for Greenfields said: "We are aware that parking can be an important issue for our residents, and we offer our support and guidance to help, including gathering their views and liaising with the relevant organisations who implement parking schemes.

"Following our consultation with the residents at Dengie Close, North Essex Parking Partnership confirmed last year that as 85 per cent or more of the residents hadn’t voted for one of the schemes proposed over the others, they would be unable to implement parking restrictions or resident permit parking.

"We held a subsequent meeting with the affected residents where, again, the majority of them confirmed that they didn’t wish to pay for a residents parking scheme."

Mr Behrens said he thought after the verbal abuse residents would be happy to pay for residential permits.

A Braintree Council spokesman said: “Braintree Council was happy to support a Resident’s Parking Scheme in 2012 but unfortunately there wasn’t majority support by the residents.”
