A STREET has come together to switch on their houses' Christmas lights in their annual community celebration Residents of Nayling Road, Braintree, switched on their Christmas lights on Thursday evening to the delight of crowds.
The event has become somewhat famous in the area and every year hundreds of people come along to see the spectacular displays from houses along the road.
Each year the homeowners also collect money for charity, this year raising money for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity - a disease which has affected the whole community.
Individual houses are also collecting cash for other charities.
Charlotte Burt, one of the organisers said: "We had quite a lot of visitors as usual on December 1.
"There are a few houses that are not quite ready so people could see that it is going to get bigger and better.
"My house has a light show to music which is one of two displays.
"The week before Christmas is usually the busiest but for a mid week switch on we had a lot of people turn up."
The houses will be illuminated until December 31.
