A DAUGHTER held a fundraising party in memory of her dad who was killed in a head-on collision.

Diane Towler, from Feering, lost her dad in March this year.

He and another driver died instantly in a head-on collision in Howe Green, Chelmsford.

All the emergency services attended, including Essex Air Ambulance- however her dad, Stephen Kateley, was sadly dead at the scene.

Mr Kateley, who lived in Highwoods in Colchester, was on his way home from Chelmsford, where he worked as a company director.

The incident happened just before his 70th birthday.

Mrs Towler, from London Road, wanted to raise money for the air ambulance as part of the memorial party.

She said: "I just wanted to do something in memory of dad- we wanted to do something for Essex Air Ambulance and decided to take part in Go Yellow Week for Essex Air Ambulance.

"We held a yellow party with stalls and a raffle and we were amazed and so overwhelmed by how much we raised."

She said it was nice to see so much support after such a traumatic time.

She also set up a fundraising page online which generated a lot of donations.

She said: "He loved parties and was social, and we have a lot of friends and family who wanted to raise a glass to him.

"It was a great success, we raised more than £3,500.

"We wanted to get everyone together and do something positive to help someone else in the future.

"My dads favourite colour was yellow as well so it was fitting."

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at the event, which was held on Saturday, September 24 at Feering Cricket Club.
