MEMBERS of the public are invited to nominate a member of Essex Police for a public hero award.

As part of the force's annual awards ceremony there is an opportunity for people to thank police employees who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

The ceremony in October will be the first for the new award, which is open to police officers, specials and all members of police staff.

Chief constable Stephen Kavanagh said: "Every day I have the pleasure and pride to witness examples of police officers, members of police staff and specials going beyond the call of duty.

"This year we're giving you the opportunity to nominate unsung heroes who you think are deserving of wider recognition.

"So if you know someone who goes above and beyond don't let their amazing work go unnoticed - nominate them for the public hero award."

To make a nomination visit Essex Police with your contact details, the name of the person you’re nominating and the reasons why.

A panel of judges will then select a shortlist of finalists from which you will be given the chance to vote for in a public online poll.

The closing date for nominations is 5pm next Sunday.
