I REFER to the B&W article on July 14 relating to the relocation of the St Lawrence Medical Practice to the Braintree College Campus.

I must admit the perfect site for relocation will not be found, but is the College site the most beneficial for patients? I think not.

In the article Councillor Graham Butland is quoted as stating that the location is “within walking distance from the town, is accessible by public transport and has on-site parking for patients, emergency vehicles and staff.”

I cannot dispute that is correct but would like to question the practicality of using those methods for access.

1. The distance from town is easily walkable if you are fit and capable but what if you are infirm or disabled as many of the practice’s patients are?

2. Whilst it is agreed that public transport passes the vicinity of the college, at what frequency does it run and are all vehicles disabled friendly?

3. There are no doubt parking facilities (or will-be parking facilities) at the site but how many of these will be for patients and how many of those will be for the disabled?

Also, how will they be restricted for the use of the medical practice patients/staff etc. only?

I hope that it is not too late for Virgin Care to reconsider their proposed siting of the new surgery.
