A CARE home threatened with closure has been saved.

In October 2013, specialist disability charity Scope put forward a proposal to change or close 11 of its 35 care homes over three years.

The provider claimed more disabled people now want to live in their community, supported by staff they choose, rather than being in a specialist residential or care home.

One of those homes now has a new provider ready to take over in the coming months.

Drummonds care home in The Street, Feering, run by Scope, is home to 41 people with learning and physical disabilities, as well as sensory impairments and cerebral palsy.

Between January and March 2016 Scope explored the possibility of transferring the home to an alternative provider and has since received an offer.

Black Swan Care Group, based in Norfolk, already has various homes in Essex including Valentine House in Silver End and has offered to run Drummonds as it is now.

It is hoped the transfer will be completed by September 2016, although the two providers say they are still working on the fine print and are unable to confirm exact timings yet.

A statement published by Scope said: "Over the next couple of months we will continue to work with Black Swan and will keep you updated on how things are going."
