CHILDREN at a school in Witham set up stalls and ran a businesses selling goods as part of an ambitious enterprise project.

Year 6 pupils at the Howbridge Church of England Junior School were set a series of challenges including marketing their product, keeping a track of finance and developing branding.

They were given a £10 investment by headteacher Sean Wade, which they were asked to make a profit on.

Money raised will be put towards an end of Year 6 leaver's party which will take place in July.

Abby Ansell, a Year 6 pupil, said: "It was extremely exciting seeing children and parents buying our products. It made it even better knowing this was going to help make our party even better."

Stalls on offer at the fair included popcorn, candy-floss, cakes, sweet cones and a stationary shop selling home-made bookmarks.

Each group involved has recorded a profit, with some of the more successful businesses making a profit of over £30.

Mr Wade said: "This is great experience for the children - especially as they're going to senior school. As the day drew to an end nearly every product was sold - we certainly have some budding entrepreneurs here at Howbridge."

The fair took place on Friday, May 20.
