A MARTIAL Arts pro is being backed by the same sponsors supporting UK boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

Joe Harding, a PE teacher at Maltings Academy in Witham, is now being sponsored by Texo scaffolding.

The Witham champion has been fighting since he was 10 years old and is due to join Team UK in an international mixed martial arts championships in Las Vegas.

Mr Harding, 25, said: "Managing director Rob Hayward at Texo is a great supporter and has powered me to get to Vegas and secure a future in MMA like Anthony Joshua, who's now at world level in boxing.

"It's crazy to think I share a sponsor with Anthony Joshua who's already achieved so much, from winning gold at London 2012 to winning The world Heavyweight title in boxing, there's much more coming from that guy.

"My journey is starting and I looking forward to achieving great things with Texo behind me."

His family and friends are holding a 'good luck' evening at the White Hart in Witham on Friday, June 24, and he will leave for Vegas the week after.

He said: "Training is going well, I'm preparing my body every day to be best athlete and fighter I can be.

"I want to bring back a gold medal for the United Kingdom and I'm super excited for the challenge ahead."
