THE grandson of a former British prime minister verbally abused an MP over a row about the European Union, it is claimed.

Sir Nicholas Soames, MP for Mid Sussex and grandson of Winston Churchill, was approached by Braintree MP James Cleverly to say how much he agreed with the minister’s appeal for party unity among the Tories during the EU referendum battle.

The Sunday Times reported how the former defence minister then launched an obscene verbal attack on Mr Cleverly in a House of Commons dining room.

Sir Nicholas, who supports Britain remaining in the EU, has also attacked the views of other Brexit campaigners, including Michael Gove and Boris Johnson.

This is compared to Boris Johnson's ally and Euroscpetic Mr Cleverly, who made the claim that the European Union is responsible for using taxpayers money to undercut African farmers.

The pair have since taken to Twitter to bury the hatchet.
