A MAN was taken to hospital after being knocked unconscious by a van, which failed to stop.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the man was hit following an incident in Marks Tey this morning, Thursday, May 19.

The man, in his 50s, is from the local area and was driving along the A120 Coggeshall Road towards Braintree in a black Audi A4 shortly before 6.40am.

His vehicle is believed to have been overtaken by a white van.

As the vehicles reached the area near the pet food store at Marks Tey, both vehicles came to a stop. The victim got out of his vehicle and was in collision with the white van that then drove away.

He suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been released.

Officers from Stanway Traffic Unit are investigating the incident.

Pc Roy Linton said: "The victim was left unconscious and the driver of the white van failed to stop at the scene.

"We believe it to have been a white Citroen Berlingo van but it could have been a similar style vehicle. This is a very serious incident and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.”

Anybody that can help is asked to contact Pc Linton at Stanway Traffic on 101.
