PRIMARY school pupils from Coggeshall helped improve the gardens at the historic Marks Hall Estate.

Children aged between nine and eleven, from Soaring High Montessori Primary School, took part in Royal Botanic Gardens Kew initiative called 'Grow Wild' on Tuesday May 17

It is the UK's biggest ever wild flower campaign aiming to get people planting native pollinator-friendly wild flowers and plants in their gardens and parks.

Since the 1930s, the UK has lost 97% of wild flower meadows.

Coggeshall in Bloom applied for a kit that pupils used to create their own wild flowerbed along a recently landscaped pathway.

Rebecca Lee, General Manager at Marks Hall, said: "It is fantastic to see the children getting hands on with nature and planting wildflowers.

"Here at Marks Hall, we are delighted to play our part in helping children to engage with nature."

Sarah Rowledge, Principal at Soaring High added "We believe that being outside is a natural extension of the classroom.

"We have been involved in woodland planting at Marks Hall, and we’re delighted that the children now have this opportunity to learn about the importance of wild flowers.

"We’re grateful to both Coggeshall in Bloom and Marks Hall for helping to make this happen.”
