A Witham junior school has celebrated its first science day last week with experiments and explosions galore.


Pupils at Howbridge Junior School, in Howbridge Road, geared up in their white coats and safety goggles on September 29 for some fun experiments to during its first science day.


Children conducted experiments including exploding bags with carbon dioxide, mixing chemicals to make fizzing geysers and exploring the strength of air pressure with potatoes and drinking straws.


A theatre company also visited, performing a themed pantomime based on electricity.


Year six teacher, Anita Wilson, who organised the event said: "We wanted to get the children excited about science and using their investigative skills. The day has been a real success."


Cailey Hackett, a Year six pupil, said: "It was amazing. I found out so much and I loved it when we made a coke explosion.”
