A LISTED building which played a central role in Braintree’s industrial past will undergo restoration work.

Warners Mill in Silks Way, Braintree, needs brickwork repairs and new maintenance hatches.

Mr N Forsyth, C Harman, N Whittle and L Potter have applied to Braintree Council to carry out the work.

The former textiles factory is part of the larger New Mills complex of 19th century industrial buildings and comprises a Silk throwing mill built by George Courtauld in 1810.

Where brickwork or mortar joints are heavily eroded new bricks will be used to match the existing building and laid with a traditional hydraulic lime mortar.

The work will also involve the insertion of four timber maintenance access hatches within the brickwork.

There will be no significant alteration to the overall appearance of the building.
