Braintree and Witham will soon benefit from the latest change in welfare.
Universal Credit will be rolled out to both towns on Monday and aims to simplify the welfare system, provide an incentive to jobseekers and help people be better off in work.
It will replace six existing benefits with one monthly payment to combine in and out of work benefits.
The new system shifts focus away from the number of hours a person works to the amount they earn, ending the 16 hour rule.
