Could this piece of land be the answer to some of Witham’s parking woes?

Town councillor Rob Williams spotted the slice of land on Freebournes industrial estate which could have potential for 250 parking spaces for the town’s workers and commuters.

The council is due to approach Essex County Council, which owns the narrow strip of land between Wheaton Road and Pasture Road, to see if it could be transformed into a narrow car park with diagonal spaces.

The stretch of concrete once formed part of the Blackwater Trail but is now disused and blocked by bollards.

Councillors are yet to decide if the parking would be free or if they would impose a charge.
