A GOLF club will build a new “adventure golf” course as part of a restructuring scheme following plans to build dozens of new homes on its land.

Developers Bellway Homes and Swan Hill Homes have applied for planning permission to build up to 370 homes on land off Forest Road in Rivenhall.

Part of the plot encroaches on the two southern-most holes on the nine-hole Oaks course at Rivenhall Oaks Golf Centre.

The owners have applied for planning permission to create new lakes, bunkers, greens, tees and mounding on the Oaks course and the smaller nine-hole Acorns course at the north of the site.

The design and access statement submitted to Braintree Council said: “The proposals provide a more interesting and varied course layout, with a similar yardage to the existing course, but within a smaller area of land.

“As a result, the proposals reduce the overall extent of the golf centre.”

Plans include a 12-hole adventure golf course adjacent to an extended clubhouse, which will feature a teepee, a raft, a rocky mountain range and totem poles.

The statement said the course would attract new visitors to the site and an additional 22 car park spaces will be created to accommodate them.
