Two women from Coggeshall who created a show garden at the prestigious Hampton Court Palace flower show were commended for their efforts by HRH Princess Alexandra.

Garden designer Jean Wardrop and landscape architect Alexandra Stevenson were awarded the silver medal after they won the chance to design and build their own garden at the annual floral extravaganza.

The Royal Horticultural Society show was broadcast on TV and drew in about 160,000 visitors between June 30 and Sunday, including Princess Alexandra, the Queen’s cousin in her role as patron of horticultural charity Perennial.

Mum-of-two Jean, of East Street, was selected alongside Alexandra, of Church Street, to create a 12metre by 8.5metre garden for this year’s show after winning a silver medal in last year’s competition.
