An exercise group for heart attack survivors and patients is celebrating a decade of dedication to good health.

The Fresh Start group meets weekly at Braintree Leisure Centre in Panfield Lane, with instructor Martin Frost.

Mr Frost said: “We have people who had heart attacks nine or ten years ago that are still going on strong.

“You can tell it’s having an effect by how they’re moving and how they are continuing to move. You certainly see improvement.

“It also gives people the opportunity for exercise amongst peers and friends because the social aspect of exercise is important as well.”

Circuit classes begin with a 15-minute warm - up and the session lasts for about 35 minutes .

Original member Anita Fenner, 76, of Great Leighs, said Mr Frost’s cheeky style and the social aspects of the class keep her coming back.

She said: “He’s saucy with us but that’s all part of the fun. We do have a laugh. I think you feel it when you don’t come, so it’s definitely beneficial.”

Mr Frost said patients should consult with their doctor before taking exercise .
